In the latter part of 2005 NGA signed with Derecktor Shipyards to provide full detailed design for Project Gemini, a 45m Van Peteghem Laurent Prevost design. When launched she will be the largest sailing catamaran in the world.
Full structural analysis and design has been conducted by NGA utilising extensive Finite Element Analysis, "The vessels size has pushed the limits of current practice and therefore relied on direct calculation for loading analysis " said Andy Bennet NGA's chief Structural Engineer, "we have been working closely with Bureau Veritas who have been developing new classification rules which will be applicable for large sailing multihulls".
The yacht features a novel stowage arrangement with an 11m RIB being housed in the cross deck and launched through bomb-bay style doors in the underside of the wet deck. NGA developed the concept engineering studies for this complex arrangement.
Gemini is currently in the advanced stages of outfitting at Pendennis Shipyard.
